There are a lot of gelato shops in Italy. Thousands. If you ever go, the locals will tell you that the good gelato is freshly made everyday and the bad gelato is piled up in the shops, creating “mountains” of gelato. So stay away from the mounds!
I studied abroad two summers ago in Florence, Italy. I think I ate gelato everyday. It became an obsession. I wanted to try every flavor and scope out the best shop in the city. I was able to narrow it down to a few, by using Instagram to see what other people thought. Most people like to take pictures of their gelato, making for a pretty easy search. I have a little collection of my own. Here are some of my favorites.
Out of all the gelato shops in Florence, the best one is Gelateria Santa Trinita. They have the best flavors, but also the creamiest gelato. You can order your gelato then walk across the bridge to enjoy a nice beautiful view of the river.
